BPCC is 14 years old and was founded by a local choral singer (who's still a member) to provide the community with an opportunity to meet once a week to learn, sing and enjoy a wide range of music, whether or not they have had any previous musical experience. We are a friendly, non-audition mixed choir. Over the years the choir has expanded (currently 68 singers) and we have members coming from further afield (eg. Crouch End, Hornsey, Winchmore Hill, Palmers Green and Barnet). We rehearse on Thurs evenings in the upper hall at Bounds Green School - very close to Bounds Green tube and the Piccadilly line. We're also near good bus routes and there is free car parking at the school and on roads nearby. There is lift access in the school for anyone who needs it. We usually sing around 12-14 short pieces of music per term, chosen by our musical director and with suggestions from the choir. Our repertoire encompasses short classical pieces and madrigals. folk/traditional, world, gospel, pop/rock, musical film and theatre, jazz, medleys and canons. We enjoy learning one or two songs per term in languages other than English - in the past we've sung lovely pieces in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Zulu, Hebrew and Welsh - and most recently Dutch and Jiangsu (Mandarin). We perform 2-3 times a year in a local school (raising funds for different local charities) and also sing at local events and fairs, eg. Myddleton Rd Winter Festival. Although we hope every member will want to participate in concerts and events, it isn't compulsory to do everything. We have recently started holding half-day workshops for members every term - partly for improving singing technique/musical knowledge and partly just for fun!
Bowes Park Community Choir was founded in 2010 to provide an opportunity for people in the local area and further afield in north London to come together once a week (during term time) to learn and sing a varied repertoire of music, encompassing classical pieces, madrigals, folk/traditional, world, gospel, film and theatre songs, pop/rock and medleys. We are a non-audition mixed choir, welcoming members of all ages (from 16 to 99+) and from all backgrounds, with or without any previous musical experience. We hold 2 or 3 concerts per year (fundraising for local charities whenever possible) and sing at local summer and winter events.
