London Concert Choir

London Concert Choir

London Concert Choir, one of London’s leading amateur choirs, celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2020. A lively and ambitious choir of around 150 members, London Concert Choir is notable for the commitment and musicality of its performances in an unusually varied repertoire. This ranges from unaccompanied church music to large-scale choral works, as well as concert performances of operas and songs from the shows. With conductor Mark Forkgen LCC regularly appears at London’s premier concert venues, while tours abroad have included visits to France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain. The choir’s 50th anniversary saw two performances of Britten’s War Requiem. Among other major works in recent seasons have been Mozart’s Requiem with the London Mozart Players, Rachmaninov’s choral symphony The Bells with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Brahms’ German Requiem and Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, all with Southbank Sinfonia. Operas in concert performance have ranged from Purcell’s King Arthur to Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and the London premiere of The Chalk Legend by Stephen McNeff. Performances with the Counterpoint period instrumental ensemble include Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt, Bach’s St Matthew and St John Passions and Christmas Oratorio, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and Schubert’s rarely-heard Mass in E flat. LCC has also performed Ellington’s Sacred Concert, Will Todd’s Mass in Blue and a concert to mark Leonard Bernstein’s centenary. The choir often gives concerts for charity and continues to commission new works. These have included A Light not yet Ready to Go Out by Alison Willis, in aid of Breast Cancer Now, and Per Ardua ad Astra, a major work by Roderick Williams, the choir’s President, to celebrate the centenary of the Royal Air Force.

Teddington Choral Society

Teddington Choral Society

Founded in 1951 by Lisette Brooks, Teddington Historical Montage Choral Society has had only seven Musical Directors in its more than 60 years. During this time, the choir has performed in some very prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and at Kneller Hall with the Band of the Royal Military School of Music. We have also entertained in Central Hall, Westminster, Alexandra Palace and Kew Gardens and at various prestigious centres outside London. Over the years, TCS has performed under many distinguished batons, including those of Sir Malcolm Sargent, Sir Adrian Boult, Sir Yehudi Menuhin and Vilem Tausky. In November 2000, the choir took part in The Richmond Millennium 2000 Concert at the Landmark Arts Centre, Teddington, performing Verdi Requiem with The Barnes Choir, Cantanti Camerati, Whitton Choral Society and The Richmond Orchestra, all under the baton of Phillip Hesketh. In March 2001, TCS performed the world première of Geoffrey Bowyer’s A Pilgrim’s Requiem, with Cantanti Camerati and the Teddington Symphonia. In 2004, some members of TCS formed part of the choir to be seen in the Bridget Jones film, The Edge of Reason and in 2015 in the film The Theory of Everything. In July 2015 the choir said farewell to Patrick Martin our Musical Director who has had four successful and entertaining years. 2015, 2016 & 2017 saw TCS holding Workshops working on performance, presentation & offering 1:1 singing lessons. In December 2018 we said farewell to Sam Evans MD & welcomed Julian Collings who was appointed to take over as early in 2019. Over the last few years the choir has enjoyed a growing reputation for its repertoire of outstanding contemporary music alongside the established classics. Phil Culling is the exceptional accompanist. TCS is currently around 120 strong and performs three main concerts during the year. Workshops are a regular feature, plus social evenings. With past successes and imaginative programming, TCS is a thriving welcoming and joyful community choir. We like to rehearse and perform with our sense of humour switched on.
