We’re a friendly, good humoured SATB choir of 60+ adult members, with a mix of ages. We rehearse weekly during term-time and we welcome new members – from experienced singers to inexperienced singers who wish to develop their skills. We offer a wide and varied experience of choral singing. Our repertoire encompasses sacred and secular music from all eras, mainly classical but also on occasion featuring other genres such as opera, musicals, folk or jazz, and we welcome members’ suggestions. We’re a non-auditioned choir that works hard at (and between!) rehearsals to achieve high performance standards. At the same time we enjoy our singing and have fun. We are not afraid to tackle some challenging music. We perform four concerts a year, usually in churches in the Borough of Enfield, sometimes with professional soloists or solos from choir members (with choir-funded support available). Additional activities include: informal ad hoc sectional rehearsals; occasional Saturday workshops; where feasible accepting invitations to sing in the community; regular social evenings; and occasional social events such as quizzes. Members who are stronger singers can join the ECS Chamber Choir (set up early 2024) which rehearses some weeks immediately before the main choir.
Enfield Choral Society started in 1938, though initially with a different name. Our constitution states that: ‘The objects of the Society shall be to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art and science of choral music in all its aspects by the presentation of public choral concerts and recitals and by such other ways as the Society, through its Committee, shall determine from time to time.’ We have recently introduced a chamber choir which is not listed separately as it recruits only from the main choir. We avoid ends of term for our spring, summer and autumn concerts each year.
Choirslist London lists choirs across its 33 boroughs.
