Croydon Philharmonic Choir is a friendly, welcoming choir with a rich history and a place at the heart of the Croydon community. It was founded in 1914 in order to raise funds for First World War refugees and prides itself on being the largest and longest-established choir in Croydon. We perform a wide repertoire, from the great requiems of Mozart, Fauré and Verdi to modern masterpieces such as The Armed Man, Carmina Burana and selections from West Side Story. We have around 90 members, men and women, divided into four parts: soprano, alto, baritone and bass. We stage four concerts a year, including one with the Basingstoke Choral Society, and one of our favourite venues is Croydon's Fairfield Hall. Under our inspirational music director David Gibson, our rehearsals are both hard-working and fun. We have a range of abilities in the choir and while being able to read music is an advantage it is by no means necessary, and you will always find members who will help you at the start. We have recently performed in concerts led by the London Mozart Players and enjoy the challenge of meeting the high standards they set. If you are thinking of joining us you are welcome to come to a rehearsal or two to learn more about us. So please come along and give us a try!
Croydon Philharmonic is friendly mixed choir, with four voices: Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. We sing a diverse repertoire, from the great requiems by Mozart and Verdi to selections from modern classics such as West Side Story. The choir was founded in 1914, raising funds for WW1 refugees, and has been at the heat of the Croydon community ever since. We perform four concerts a year, often appearing at the Fairfield Halls, and including a joint concert with the Basingstoke Choral Society. We have some 90 members and an inspirational music director, David Gibson, who always brings out the best in us. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at St Matthew's in Chichester Road and always welcome new members. Sight-reading is an advantage but is not required, and there is a simple voice test to determine which section newcomers should join.
