The choir is currently around 20 voices strong, ranging from people relatively new to choral singing to some very experienced choral singers. Previous recent concerts have explored compositions from a diverse range of composers, including Byrd, Purcell, Brahms, Mozart and Vaughan Williams. We have featured music by contemporary composers, Will Todd, Alexander Campkin and John Rutter. American music has been a favourite of many choir members, with arrangements of popular classics such as ‘Autumn Leaves’, ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘Summertime’. Occasionally we have also been able to commission new works and we have sung in Welsh, Icelandic, French, German, and Portuguese.
We are a well-established South West London chamber choir, formed in 1950, which is part of the vibrant musical life of the London Borough of Merton. Over the years, the choir has enjoyed associations with many famous names, including Sir Colin Davis, Brian Kay, Paul Hillier and, more recently, Roderick Williams, James Gilchrist, Iestyn Davies and Sofi Jeannin. The choir has a wide ranging repertoire from renaissance motets to jazz standards and music by living composers, such as Bob Chilcott ,and Morten Lauridsen. The choir's purpose is to develop an appreciation of music, through the presentation of three public choral concerts each season, in a venue accessible to the general public, where a wide variety of sacred and secular music is performed.
Choirslist London lists choirs across its 33 boroughs.
