LSP is a friendly, inclusive and lively community-led choir with its very own professional band, based in North London. We have been going since 2016 and are a lovely bunch of ~50 singers – some with loads of singing experience, some who’ve never sung in a choir before. We don’t have any auditions on joining and we all support each other in rehearsing and performing. We do use sheet music, but you do not need to be able to read music. In fact, many members follow along and sing mainly by ear. All we ask is that you aspire to learn, to practise and improve! Everyone is welcome at our local pub for a drink after rehearsals and we do try to arrange at least one official choir dinner a year. We work towards gigs throughout the course of the year, with our general pattern being two main ones (ticketed, with a 150+ audience), plus a few more informal/pop-up performances at unexpected venues like St Pancras station and the South Bank Centre concourse. Performing together for an audience is a huge buzz for everyone and even those who get a little nervous beforehand can’t wait for the next time! We love it! Our fantastic professional band – comprising piano/keys, drums, bass and guitar - are central to the LSP sound and help set us apart from other community choirs. They join vocal rehearsals every month and of course perform at all our gigs. Their connections across the music industry allow us to invite guest artists and musicians to join us on stage and enrich our sounds at every gig. So far, we’ve had harp, sax, trumpet, accordion, trombone – and even a human beatbox!
