Take Twenty are a lively, friendly group of singers who meet weekly in Camden, North London at Gospel Oak Methodist Church. We sing original and stylish arrangements of standards, jazz, Latin as well as contemporary and pop songs. We rehearse with music scores, although some of our members do not read music and learn by ear. We cater for all and are a very supportive group. Our extensive repertoire is directed by an inspiring musical director with a regular accompanist and we aim for the best possible standards, with lush harmonies, in performance. We usually have at least one concert in the winter and summer terms and other ad hoc performances. We recently supported Jacqui Dankworth in concert. We have a wonderful residential weekend in the summer where former members join with current members and their partners and friends in intensive classes learning new material punctuated by a cabaret evening and party. Check out our website www.taketwenty.co.uk where you can see more about us and have a listen to some samples of our work on the site or on Youtube. Singing is one of the most enjoyable things you can do and if you like the sound of us, or have any questions, do complete the contact form on the website or send us an email and then come along to a taster rehearsal.
Take Twenty, formerly the Primrose Hill Singers, was the first amateur jazz choir in London. It emerged from an adult education class at Camden Adult institute that started with pop songs of the era. Over the last 40 odd years, the choir has evolved. Today, although an amateur choir, it boasts a high level of accomplishment in its original and stylish arrangements of a jazz based repertoire of standards, and contemporary and pop and original songs.
Choirslist London lists choirs across its 33 boroughs.
