The Barnes Choir, originally known as The Barnes Music Club Choir, was established in 1953/4, and so we have recently celebrated our 70th Anniversary Season. A friendly and sociable choir, we number some70 singers drawn mostly from the Barnes, Sheen and Richmond areas. We perform mainly, but not exclusively, classical choral works, including those of local composers such as Howard Goodall and Gustav Holst, and we occasionally commission new works, most recently from Russell Hepplewhite. We perform three concerts each Season at local venues, our Spring concert being performed as part of the prestigious Barnes Music Festival of which we are a Founder Member. As well as our regular concerts, we sing at local charitable events at Christmas, and at summer fêtes, and we raise funds for local cancer support charity The Mulberry Centre at our Christmas Carol Concert. We offer an Open Come and Sing day each Season and arrange overseas singing tours, our most recent being a trip to Lisbon last Autumn.
