This is a 'time and talent' choir made up of a diverse group of amateur singers who enjoy twice-weekly choral singing in church (Thursday evening rehearsal and Sunday morning singing in the service). On average we have 14 singers per Thursday evening/Sunday morning but often as many as 18. There is no cost to join. All music provided. New joiners learn the service music gradually (or if you're a strong reader you could be straight in!). You may want to do some prep at home between sessions. Learning support materials provided if needed but most people are reading the music notes to some extent (some very good readers, some less confident). Members are mostly local to Finchley and the surrounding area. Scope for solos if you're keen and able! This choir is well led and friendly, part of a vibrant Anglican parish at the heart of Finchley (north London, postcode N3 1TL). It's well served by public transport and we have regular parish social events. This church hosts lots of varied concerts and other events throughout the year, there's always something interesting going on! Why not give it a try (contact the director to let us know you're coming and what your voice range is - soprano, alto, tenor or bass).
Church choir singing an average of 4 services per month (mostly Sunday mornings, some on Sunday late afternoon/early evening) with weekly Thursday evening rehearsals 8-930pm. We rehearse and sing in harmony: hymns, anthems, a mass setting, a responsorial psalm. Some larger projects and community involvement. This is a friendly, committed group which is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music. Established over 15 years ago our Youth Choir offers wonderful opportunities for young singers (boys and girls) aged 7-18 to learn how to sing and how to read music, in a church music context. They also get the chance to sing with the adult choir. Structured learning and regular input give a really good musical education at St Mary-at-Finchley.
